Tennessee Vols: In-State Star Ryan Johnson Commits

Tennessee Vols Coach Butch Jones added one more huge brick to his 2016 future Vol team today in Nashville. 6’6″ 270 rising Junior  Ryan Johnson out of Brentwood Academy announced this morning he will be a Vol in 2016.

Johnson has been recruited and offered by a number of SEC schools including Alabama. Johnson took a look at Bama out of respect for their program and for the number of Championships they have won (or claimed to have won if you are thinking like a Vol fan). But his heart is at home on Rocky Top.

What this means for Tennessee fans is that Butch Jones is working the State of Tennessee, and working it well. The talent level in the state has been upgraded as of late as made evident by athletes like Jalen Hurd, Josh Malone, Todd Kelly Jr., Vic Wharton and Rashaan Gaulden.

Johnson is a great addition going forward to help rebuild the Tennessee Offensive Line tradition. He is an athletic 6’6″ 270 pounder as well as just strong. He also brings a 4.3 GPA at one of the premier high schools in the area so there is no issue getting him enrolled.

Johnson has admitted that he will shut down the recruiting visits and overall process. I don’t think coaches will back off, but his mind is made up. Johnson will become a great recruiting ambassador for Butch Jones as well at Brentwood Academy and the mid state in general. Dooley just went, “oh, that’s how you’re suppose to do that…”
