The Tennessee Vols have improved tremendously over the past few seasons.

This is just a fact. Tennessee is back. After viewing the Vols practice last Saturday it is evident that Tennessee now has the horses to compete in the SEC East. I’m not saying they will win it, but I am saying Tennessee has a better than decent shot. They are talented, and they are hungry.

No where on the team is improvement more apparent than along the defensive line. If Tennessee’s offensive line was as talented and deep, I would be writing the article Why Tennessee Wins The National Championship in 2015.

Barring a series of injuries this defensive front will be one of the best, if not the best in the SEC. Yes, a lot of the talent is young. But they have a mix of youth and experience that will pay dividends this season.

More from Tennessee Volunteers

Tennessee had to get better on the defensive line. I thought last year it would be a disaster. But Freshman Derek Barnett flashed brilliance early and often. He was a complete surprise to every Vol fan in the country, and truth be told, the coaching staff as well. Everyone knew Curt Maggitt would be all world if healthy, but who else was going to play.

Well here is why they are called the Volunteers. Several one stars, two stars, and no stars stepped up. Guys like Owen Williams and Danny O’Brien played their hearts out. No, they did not have the most talent, but they had determination. They also had no one behind them that could play. There was just no depth, plain and simple.

So enjoy the show that will be the defensive line at Tennessee this season. It could rival Henderson and Haynesworth years soon. Maybe not this year, but it is coming. With that said, bring on Arkansas’ run game. Tennessee’s defensive line can stand up to it…if no one gets hurt between now and then!

Here are the guys that will get the job done!
