Verne Lundquist is retiring from the “SEC on CBS” following the 2016 season. He’ll be calling his final Vols home game on Saturday afternoon.

A lot has been made this week of Josh Dobbs’ final home game as the Vols‘ quarterback.

But it’s not just Dobbs that will be part of the action for the final time at Neyland in his career on Saturday.

Verne Lundquist, who has spent most of his esteemed career with CBS, is retiring after the 2016 season.

The SEC game of the week, which airs each week at 3:30 pm et, is the premier game of the week. You know what they say, the best game from the best conference.

Tennessee has been fortunate enough this season to be the SEC game of the week five times (including against Missouri).

Lundquist, with his legendary voice, has very fond memories of calling games at Neyland.

One of the calls you’ll hear for years to come, came from Lundquist this season when Tennessee beat Georgia.

"Dobbs heaves it. They’re bunched up in the end zone. It’s tipped up. It’s caught! It is caught! Jauan Jennings! Jauan Jennings!"

(Skip ahead to the 3:00 minute mark for Lundquist’s call)

Lundquist catches a lot of flack for getting names wrong from time to time, but there’s no doubt his voice is synonymous with the SEC.

Personally, I’m going to miss the hell out of Verne Lundquist. His voice instantly takes me to a Saturday in the fall.

Hopefully Lundquist can bring the Volunteers a little luck on Saturday. I’m sure there’s a small part of him that hopes to see the Vols win on Saturday in his final visit to Neyland.
