It’s coaching change season, which means rumors are constantly flying around the Vols’ football program right now.

On Wednesday, rumors started circulating that Butch Jones met with former Tennessee Vols offensive coordinator Mike Bajakian in Tampa Bay.

Bajakian, as I’m sure most of you recall, was Tennessee’s offensive coordinator during Jones’ first two seasons on Rocky Top.

The former UT play caller left Tennessee in 2015 to join the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ staff as the quarterbacks coach.

Once word of the alleged meeting spread, speculation about Bajakian returning to Knoxville began.

But according to Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times, Bajakian has no interest in returning to Tennessee.

If Jones did meet with Bajakian, who was also with Butch at Cincinnati and Central Michigan, there’s a good chance it was just to get some advice and/or ideas as far as potential offensive coordinators.

Unlike last time when Tennessee had an OC opening, I believe this time Jones is approaching this search with an open mind. I don’t believe he already has a name in mind like he did in 2015 with Mike DeBord.

Jones has said there’s no timetable on when he will hire an OC, but you have to believe it will be sooner rather than later.

Especially with National Signing Day on the horizon.
