If the Tennessee Titans fail to draft a wide receiver in the first round, there will still be quality options available.

By now, everyone knows the Tennessee Titans are looking to select a wide receiver in the upcoming NFL Draft.

We’ve all discussed it ad nauseam at this point.

But it’s what we do. And all we can do right now, until the end of April, is speculate on what the Titans could, or should, do in the draft.

Recent mock drafts have consistently had the Titans taking a cornerback with one of their two first round picks.

Several mocks, however, have Tennessee selecting a tight end (specifically, in most cases, Alabama’s O.J. Howard) with the 18th overall pick.

If Howard is available at the 18th pick, it might be really tough for the Titans to pass up his raw talent. The kid has the potential to be a Pro-Bowl caliber tight end (though he also has the potential to be a bust — it’s a high risk/high reward type pick).

Assuming the Titans don’t make a trade, and take a corner/tight end combination in the first round, it means they wouldn’t have a shot at selecting a wide receiver until the third round.

But that might not be such a bad thing.

Louisiana Tech wide receiver Carlos Henderson is a player that’s starting to garner a decent amount of attention.

Henderson is a 6’0″/202 lb receiver that exploded for 1,535 receiving yards and 19 receiving touchdowns as a junior in 2016.

He’s incredibly athletic and has drawn comparisons to Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown, a former sixth round draft pick.

Those comparisons might be a bit ambitious, but they’re certainly reasonable.

Current mock drafts have Henderson going in the fourth-fifth round.

But a strong performance in the combine could lift Henderson to the third round, maybe even the second round.

The Titans don’t have a second round pick, but they do have two third round picks (69th and 84th overall).

Landing Henderson in the third round, in my opinion, would be an absolute steal for the Titans.

Mostly because it means the Titans would’ve landed one of the top corners in the draft (likely Marshon Lattimore with the fifth overall pick), and a top tight end. As well as a legitimate playmaker at wide receiver.

It doesn’t even matter what the Titans do with the rest of their picks at this point. It would already be a damn near perfect draft for them.

Of course, if the Titans gamble and Henderson gets scooped up before the third round, then this whole experiment could be an epic fail for them (though there are still other quality wide receivers that can be drafted late — such as Tennessee’s Josh Malone).

Regardless of what ends up actually happening in the draft, there’s no doubt the Titans are in a great position to improve their team and make significant strides in their quest to win the AFC South.

In other words, it’s a great time to be a Titans fan.
