The Tennessee Titans Should Trade Derrick Henry To The Philadelphia Eagles

The Tennessee Titans should explore every potential option to upgrade their offense.

Most folks expect the Tennessee Titans to add a wide receiver either via the draft or free agency — or perhaps both.

But the Titans obviously have another, more underused, option — making a trade.

Tennessee running back Derrick Henry proved in limited playing time as a rookie that he’s a legitimate starting running back.

Henry rushed for 490 yards (4.5 yards per carry) and five touchdowns as a rookie.

Over a full season, those numbers extrapolate to about 1,300 yards and 12-15 touchdowns.

The only problem for Henry is that Demarco Murray is currently holding down the starting running back position in Nashville — and he’s doing a pretty damn good job at it.

You can obviously never have enough depth at any position in the NFL, but the Titans’ need at wide receiver is greater than their need at running back.

So who would be a suitable trade partner?

How about the Philadelphia Eagles.

Ryan Mathews is currently the Eagles’ starting running back, and he’s only played a full season once in his career.

At 29 years old, it’s clear that Mathews isn’t the answer in Philly.

The Eagles could consider trading wide receiver Jordan Matthews, who is entering a contract year, for a stud running back.

I think Derrick Henry would certainly fit the bill of potential stud running back.

The Titans, who would have the money to re-sign Matthews after the 2017 season, should offer Henry and a mid-round draft pick for the Eagles’ top wide receiver.

Tennessee would then have another legitimate deep threat for Marcus Mariota, and the Eagles would have a running back that they could lean on next season.

It would also free up some cap space for Philly, who could then be a major player in the 2018 wide receiver free agency sweepstakes.

What do you think of this move? Would it make sense for the Titans? Would the Eagles even consider it?
