Former Tennessee Vols linebacker Jalen Reeves-Maybin was selected in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL Draft by the Detroit Lions.

Jalen Reeves-Maybin only played four games for the Tennessee Vols in 2016, his senior season, due to a shoulder injury that required surgery.

The injury caused Reeves-Maybin to fall down most team’s draft boards. But the Detroit Lions were still a fan of what he put on tape at Tennessee.

It looks like the Lions’ gamble on selecting Reeves-Maybin is going to pay off — at least as far as his health is concerned.

Reeves-Maybin, who is taking part in Lions’ OTA’s, recently told reporters that he’s “back to normal”.

The Lions have Reeves-Maybin working at weak-side linebacker. It looks like he’s currently playing behind Paul Worrilow and Antwione Williams.

Williams is in entering his second season with the Lions. He played 14 games last season in a backup role, compiling 27 total tackles.

It wouldn’t be a surprise to see Reeves-Maybin quickly surpass Williams on the depth chart — especially since he’s now healthy.

But even if Reeves-Maybin does climb the depth chart, he will still likely see most of his playing time in 2017 on special teams.

Reeves-Maybin was invaluable at Tennessee on special teams, and it wouldn’t shock me to see him make an impact in the same way with the Lions.
