The Tennessee Vols now have one less player in their 2018 recruiting class.

2018 three-star cornerback Jaylon Reed announced his decommitment from the Tennessee Vols on Monday morning.

Reed, 6’1″/170 lbs from Olive Branch, MS (Olive Branch), committed to Tennessee on April 27. His decommitment comes just a few days after attending a camp at Ole Miss.

The general consensus seems to be that Reed, who is rated by 247Sports as the 19th best player in the state of Mississippi and the 85th best cornerback in the nation, will end up at Ole Miss.

He also has offers from Georgia, Mississippi State, Oregon, South Carolina and Vanderbilt, among several others.

So how big of a loss is this for the Vols?

Honestly, I don’t think it’s a big loss at all. There are plenty of three-star defensive backs out there. Some of them turn out to be starters, some of them barely ever see the field in college. When you’re recruiting a three-star player it’s almost impossible to know if you’re getting a solid Cam Sutton like player or someone that barely sees the field and transfers like Lemond Johnson.

While coaches recruit the players that stand out the most on film, it’s still anyone’s guess how they will adjust to playing in college.

Tennessee will replace Reed in this class with a defensive back of equal or greater value.

The Vols currently have 11 players committed to their 2018 recruiting class.
