Why will the Tennessee Titans win the AFC south in 2017?

The Tennessee Titans have improved their roster a lot over the last two years.

From the time the Titans traded for running back Demarco Murray, to the recent signing of wide receiver Eric Decker after he was released from the Jets, the Titans have been building a completely different team than what we’ve seen over the last several years.

The Titans have also been improving their defense. With the additions of Johnathan Cyprien and Logan Ryan, the secondary will have a much different look in 2017. Kevin Byard, in his second season, will look to build on a strong rookie season. Adoree Jackson will also provide a spark as a well-rounded athletic defensive back who will bring a new dynamic to the secondary.

Now let’s take a look at the different teams in the division that are hoping to win the AFC South this season.

Houston Texans

The Texans have been the bullies of the AFC South for the past few seasons, despite having some of the worst quarterbacks in the NFL. Behind J.J. Watt and Jadeveon Clowney, the Texans have been able to win consistently simply because of their outstanding defense.

Titans future opponent Deshaun Watson

This season, they will most likely be relying on the arm of rookie quarterback Deshaun Watson.

Watson was amazing at Clemson and I believe he will be a good quarterback down the road for the Texans. I don’t, however, think he will have the type of season that Dak Prescott had in his rookie campaign.

The Texans won’t be able to get over the .500 mark this season because Watson will have some typical rookie mistakes that will cause them to lose some games.

Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jaguars will be improved from last season, even though many analysts had them being much improved before last season. They will probably end up finishing last in the division despite their improvements.

The addition of running back Leonard Fournette will help quarterback Blake Bortles out tremendously, and Jalen Ramsey will continue to dominate in the Jaguars secondary. The Jaguars are on the way to becoming a factor in the AFC South, it’s going to take some more time.

Indianapolis Colts

The Colts have been the bully of the Titans specifically for the past seven seasons. They haven’t necessarily been the better team in the past few years, but they have bested the Titans in the past 11 contests dating back to the 2011 season.

The Colts haven’t done a substantial amount of offseason work this year and Andrew Luck’s shoulder is still giving him trouble after injuring it last season. I think the Colts will finish second division with an 8-8 record.

Tennessee Titans

The Titans will pick up where they left off from last season. After ending the 2016 season with a 9-7 record and narrowly missing the playoffs, the Titans will try to improve and improve their win/loss record once again.

More from Tenn Truth

Last season, the Texans were able to win the division by winning nine games, with five of them being division wins. This year, I think winning nine games would win the division outright.

The Titans will end up winning ten games this season and take the AFC South for the first time since 2008. They will beat the Colts for the first time since the 2011 season.

The game that will set the tone for the Titans’ season will be week one against the Oakland Raiders. If they beat Oakland, the sky is the limit and folks will immediately start buying into the hype.

The Titans will do something they haven’t done in a long time — win. The Nashville based franchise will finally get back to being a dominant force in the NFL like they were when they first came to Tennessee 20 years ago.
