How do the Tennessee Vols stack up against the rest of the SEC?

Pre-season expectations for the Tennessee Vols aren’t nearly as a high as they were a year ago.

I tend to think that’s a good thing for the program.

You can say all you want about coaches and hot seats and whether or not Butch Jones is the man that will return Tennessee to glory, but it’s 18-22 year old kids that truly make Vol football what it is.

And it’s important to remember that 18-22 year old kids can be susceptible to pressure. Being expected to win Tennessee’s first SEC East division title in nearly a decade was a lot of pressure last season. I’m not making any excuses, but I think this year’s Volunteers could actually perform better, because of the lowered expectations.

That’s why you might be surprised to see where I have the Vols ranked in our initial SEC power rankings.

It’ll be very interesting to see how these power ranking shake out after the first week.
