Tennessee Vols: Updated List Of Coaches To Replace Butch Jones
By Zach Ragan
Embattled Tennessee Vols head coach Butch Jones is hanging by a thread in Knoxville.
We’ve done quite a few lists over the last month about who should replace Butch Jones as the Tennessee Vols’ next head coach.
And that’s because these lists are ever changing, based on what’s happening during the 2017 season.
Our latest list is our top five coaches that we think Tennessee should target to replace Butch Jones.
However, I do have to give you fair warning. You won’t names like Jon Gruden, Chip Kelly, Chris Petersen, James Franklin or Gary Patterson on this list.
Would those guys make good coaches at Tennessee?
Absolutely.
But I don’t think any of those guys are leaving their current gigs. It just doesn’t make much sense. If for whatever reason one of them shows interest in Tennessee, then great. The Vols should make a run at them. I just don’t see it happening.
(The exception there is Kelly. I think he’ll be coaching in college next season, and I think he should be the Vols’ top target, but I tend to lean toward him landing at UCLA. Of course, Kelly is notoriously discreet about his plans, so anything could happen with him.)
With that said, here’s the top five coaches Tennessee should be targeting to replace Jones.
