After Kevin Byard was ranked the best safety in the NFL, Marcus Mariota has been ranked the 22nd best quarterback in the league.

Marcus Mariota is entering his final season in his rookie contract and has a lot to prove. He has yet to play a full 16-game season since coming into the league in 2015, including last year where Blaine Gabbert had to take over in eight different games.

Mariota was slotted in between Matthew Stafford, who was in front of him, and Jimmy Garoppolo who was right behind him.

He was the worst ranked quarterback in the AFC South and among some pretty bad names for quarterbacks who have been in the league for at least as long as Mariota. Those other quarterbacks ranked around Mariota in the 20s were Andy Dalton and Eli Manning.

The second worst AFC South quarterback on this list is Nick Foles at 14. Foles has shown in his most recent stint with the Eagles he has the potential to be a really good quarterback if he can get in the right system. Unfortunately for him, the Eagles’ system might be the only one where he can show signs of elite play in it.

Mariota is 27-28 in his career and that’s one of the reasons he was ranked so low. He has yet to win ten or more games in a season and the durability factor is a big one.

Mariota has some catching up to do if he wants to be in the conversation with the other quarterbacks in his division. Andrew Luck and Deshaun Watson both ranked in the top ten at number nine and eight.

Next. Marcus Mariota could be set up for a big payday. dark

Mariota is going to need to come up big this season and play all 16 games if he wants to start earning more respect throughout the league. He is running out of time to prove he is the franchise quarterback some people believe he is.
