Tennessee basketball won its second SEC game and is now 2-1 to start the SEC schedule as Santiago Vescovi continues to contribute at a high level.

Tennessee basketball, for some reason, was a seven-point favorite coming into the game, and the Vols couldn’t cover but did get the win 56-55 thanks to the offense slowly finding its life.

I didn’t think Santiago Vescovi would contribute as much as he has so far, and I’m glad he has proven me wrong so far because Tennessee basketball has now won two games in a row and start SEC play with a 2-1 record.

John Fulkerson led the Vols in scoring with 15 points and ten rebounds, but Vescovi didn’t finish far behind him.

Vescovi finished with 13 points, three rebounds, and three assists. Turnovers are still an issue for Vescovi, but he’s improving slowly but surely.

Without Vescovi, I don’t think Tennessee would have won this game because Tennessee’s “best shooter” coming into this year, Jordan Bowman, continued his struggle with shooting 1-17 from the field and 1-12 from three.

But this win is big outside of Vescovi or Fulkerson’s performance. It looks like the Vols are starting to build some momentum, and this is a very important time to start.

Tennessee now has ten wins, and the Vols have Georgia and Vanderbilt up next before they face another good SEC West opponent in Ole Miss.

The offense is continuing to improve and although there are still a couple of guys struggling on offense, it’s clear that everyone else is finding their rhythm and everything is starting to come together for the Vols.

Along with Fulkerson and Vescovi, Josiah-Jordan James finished with double-digit points as well with ten points and six rebounds.

It looks like those three players could very well be the biggest contributors for the Vols as the SEC season progresses, but the Vols may need one more guy to step up and start knocking down shots if Tennessee wants to return to the NCAA Tournament.

Let’s hope the Vols can find that guy that will step up over the next couple of games before it’s too late.
