A Look At Tennessee Vols Receivers

Marquez North
Marquez North is coming off of a season that was not quite what the rising Junior would have liked. North was injured in the Chattanooga game which was the sixth game of the season. He was hit in the lower back while catching a high, overthrown pass from Justin Worley. North was never quite the same the rest of the season. He did not play in the Missouri and Vanderbilt games at the end of the season.
He still finished with 30 catches for 320 yards on the season. He also scored 4 touchdowns on the season.
But that is not the type of season Marquez North wanted to have. This guy is special. He has excellent size at 6’4″ and 221 pounds. North is so strong at the line of scrimmage that he is able to produce separation quickly. Although he is not a burner, North has deceptive “football” speed on the field that helps him get behind defenders.
By “football” speed I mean that his route running and strength in pads helps him run past smaller, faster defensive backs. North is a good route runner. Simply put, Tennessee needs to get the ball to this guy down the field. North is not the bubble screen type of receiver in my opinion, but excels more down the field.
North is incredibly gifted with a great set of hands and incredible concentration on the football. His catch against Georgia as a freshman showed concentration and awareness way beyond his years. He is the total package at receiver, and is Tennessee’s number one weapon at receiver right now.
