A Look At Tennessee Vols Receivers

Von Pearson
Von Pearson is made for ESPN’s top ten plays. He is a human highlight reel. Pearson made spectacular plays in his first season at Tennessee in practice and in games. I was extremely excited to see this guy in person after reading that he would remind people of Cordarelle Patterson.
Pearson was a junior college signee of Butch Jones. He did not remind me of Patterson at all, but had a similar if not better effect on the Vol offense. Opposing defensed better have an eye on Pearson no matter where he lines up.
Von is the prototypical slot receiver, but plays wide as well. He “is” the bubble screen guy to go to. He is incredibly quick and shifty, and gets off of the line of scrimmage well. He has a sense for the end zone, and he led Vol receivers in that category last season with five trips to the end zone.
Pearson was also sidelined with a high ankle sprain early in the season and missed all of the Georgia and Oklahoma games. He did come back from the injury, and although it bothered him, he still played at an extremely high level.
Pearson has good size at 6’3″. He is slight at 183 pounds, but his game is quickness and speed. He just makes plays. Von ranked second on the team behind Howard in catches and yard for a receiver with 38 receptions for 393 yards on the season.
Von will challenge every defense he sees this season, and will be a threat in his Senior season. I wish he had a few more years here, but he will move on to the NFL next season. Opposing coaches probably fear Pearson the most of any of the Vol receivers as he provides Tennessee with many mismatch opportunities. Look for Von to have a big season in 2015.
