Owen Williams

One of the most improved players in 2014 was defensive tackle Owen Williams. He is another one of the lunch pail type of defensive lineman Tennessee used last season. He is a tireless worker on the inside, and has adequate speed for a big man. Williams had a great season for the Vols racking up 21 tackles last year.

Owens takes up some space at 6’0 300 lbs in the middle. Like O’Brien, Williams was on the field way too much last season. The lack of depth hurt Tennessee, but because of Williams’ and O’Brien’s stellar play it did not effect the Vols as much as I thought it would.

Williams came to Tennessee via the junior college route. He had little trouble adjusting from community college to the SEC. He will even be better this season, and will start at the nose for the Vols when they line up against Bowling Green State University in two weeks in my opinion.
