Vols : Why You Can’t Run on Tennessee in 2015

Corey Vereen
Corey Vereen played in every game last season as a defensive end for the Vols. He recorded an impressive 24 tackles on the 2014 season. The Junior out of Winter Garden, Florida does several things well at the defensive end position. None better than getting to the the quarterback.
Vereen comes off of the edge as good as anyone not named Barnett or Maggitt. He will be the first defensive end reserve called into action for the Vols. I hate it for Corey, but I have to say it. He is a starter anywhere else this season probably.
Blessed with plenty of athletic ability in a 6’2″ 250 frame, Vereen is the perfect edge rusher. He has a quick first step, and the speed to close once he gets close. Vereen could stand to be a little more aggressive in my opinion, but he is one of my favorites. He tends to want to run around the offensive blocker as opposed to physically pushing the blocker back.
I don’t care how he gets it done, he just does. Again, the reason I am so excited about this defensive line is that having guys with this much talent coming off of the bench, and helping the starters stay fresh is a luxury Tennessee has just not had in a long time.
Imagine an offensive lineman late in the fourth quarter who has had to deal with Barnett, Maggitt and now Vereen all game long. Advantage Tennessee.
