Shy Tuttle

Signing Shy Tuttle was one of Butch Jones’ best recruiting battles. If you remember, it was the Tennessee staff that sent the photo of Tuttle and Beyonce that really caught Tuttle’s attention. Shy knew something special was going to happen in Knoxville with Khalil McKenzie coming in, and he wanted to be part of it. We are so happy he decided to come to Tennessee.

Tuttle has been incredible since coming to campus in the spring. He showed right away that at 6’2″ and 311 lbs, that he was not just some large guy that stands in the middle of the field. No sir, this guy gets after you. It is for this reason that you will see Tuttle on the field in Neyland sooner than later. He can play now.

It is tough for freshman to make a difference in the SEC along the defensive line of scrimmage if you are an interior lineman. Tennessee will have two that will be difference makers right away. Shy is one of them.

He has been as hard of a worker as Tennessee has had in the spring and the fall. He was the second true freshman to have the Butch Jones Black Stripe removed from his helmet. That is based on maturity, effort, and understanding on the field.

Pairing Tuttle in the middle alongside McKenzie will be a force the likes the Vols have not seen since John Henderson and Albert Haynesworth. That was an outstanding defensive line. This one has the potential to be much better, thanks in part to Shy.
