The Vols can beat Oklahoma tomorrow. Here is how.

Tennessee has the opportunity to get back in the national spotlight tomorrow as the Vols host the Oklahoma Sooners. It is of course a sell out. It is also the highest dollar amount that a face value ticket has ever been at a Tennessee game. The face value is $105. You can buy season tickets at Vanderbilt for that amount.

So Vol fans are ready. The food is packed, grill is secured, the beer is iced, and the orange or white is laid out for the checkerboard Neyland event. It will be a spectacular day. Weather forecasts have the day predicted as a high of 70, with a 60% chance of scattered showers.

There is a 100% chance that the Sooners show up with their coach that has a big SEC chip on his shoulders. Let’s hope he leaves Neyland with an even heavier one.

Oklahoma brings their 18th ranked covered wagon to Neyland for the 6:00 Eastern Kickoff. It is the most significant game in this stadium in years. It is more significant for the Vols than the Sooners. This is not a make or break game for either team. It is not a conference game of course, so it will not impact respective conference standings.

The Florida game is much more important to Tennessee. But you can’t tell that to the fans. They are ready. Oklahoma brings a chance for Vol fans to be able to feel good again. It brings an opportunity to be rewarded for staying true through the Kiffin/Dooley era. It is important to the fans.

Make no mistake, it is important to the team. It is more important to keep the Vols momentum moving in a positive manner. The Vols have been flying high since quarterback Josh Dobbs took over in the second half against Alabama last season. The offense has clicked. The recruiting is going well. The wins began to mount. A bowl game blowout of Iowa was a welcome sight. Things have gone well.

Now Oklahoma stands in the way. Does the party extend, or is it wait til next year for the Vols faithful and team? It will all be unveiled tomorrow. Here is how I think Tennessee can win. It is not earth shattering or particularly insightful. It is what it is.
