Is Joshua Dobbs better than Baker Mayfield?

He will have to be tomorrow. I personally think Dobbs is the better of the two. Dobbs is a little more experienced. Very little. But that can make a difference in a game like this. Dobbs is a pretty cool customer. He has been in some tough ballgames where a mistake could be costly. The South Carolina game last season showed what this guy is made of.

Mayfield can flat spin it. There is no doubt that he and his new offensive coordinator have clicked instantly. Mayfield threw all over the Zips last week. Bowling Green threw all over the Vols. Advantage Oklahoma when Mayfield drops back. But that is where it ends.

Joshua is the complete package. His legs will determine the outcome as much as his arm. Dobbs must keep the Sooner defensive line and linebackers honest by keeping the ball for a significant amount of carries. Running backs Jalen Hurd and Alvin Kamara could have a big day if Dobbs runs the zone read correctly. Take the yards you can get from the quarterback run, and you will open up some huge lanes later in the game for these two.

Dobbs gets Pig Howard back tomorrow. He has a comfort level of trust with Pig on underneath routes. That will be there. I do think it will be important for Tennessee to at least show they can go downfield some. The safeties of the Sooners will play down hill all day on the Tennessee running backs if Josh Malone, Jauan Jennings or Josh Smith can not become a deep threat. Dobbs will need to complete at least one of these explosive passes in each half.

I give the edge to Dobbs and Tennessee here at quarterback. He will be the key to the win. If he plays flawlessly, the Vols can and will win. He will need to have at least 50 yards on the ground to do so, and not turn the ball over at all in the passing game.
