Hurd And Kamara Need To Get 200

The Vols dynamic duo of Jalen Hurd and Alvin Kamara were a force against MAC opponent Bowling Green. Well this isn’t Bowling Green. This is Oklafreakinhoma. They are good.

The front seven is really good as always for the Sooners. They have one of the premier pass rushers in the NCAA. Tennessee’s offensive line was exploited last season. With statuesque quarterback Justin Worley standing in the pocket fairly immobile, the Vols struggled to get anything going offensively.

That will not be the case this year. Joshua Dobbs will not stand there. He will run the zone read as the zone read is supposed to be run. An option is not an option without and option. Mark that one down as a Sharberism. Last season Worley refused to keep against Oklahoma. Dobbs will not refuse to run. He will take advantage.

That will open up the Hurd and Kamara for some explosive runs. It is my opinion that Tennessee will win this game on the ground, or lose it on the ground. If the run game goes for 200 yards, Rocky Top will be a fun place to be.

The combination of these two backs the Vols can throw at you is devastating to defenses. Hurd has it all. He can catch, he can run over you, he can run around you, and he can knock your head off in pass protection.

Kamara is more powerful than he looks. His best attribute is his vision and speed hitting the hole. He is the back Tennessee has not had in, well, forever. He is a guy that can take it the distance. I was a little surprised that he was caught from behind last week on his long touchdown run. It looked as if he let up. He won’t do that again.

If Dobbs can keep the defense honest by keeping the ball some successfully, these two can put up 200 yards between them. It will be a call the Oklahoma defensive coordinators will make. Do they want Dobbs to keep, or do you want the running backs to get the rock? Pick your poison Oklahoma.

Look for the Vols to get these guys in some one on one situations in the passing game out of the backfield as well tomorrow. If the line can give Dobbs time, get the receivers time to clear out deep, and dump the ball to one of these two….good things will happen for the Vols.
