Titans Need Fans To Take Back Home Field

The Titans need the fans to take back their home field this Sunday.

Empathy has set in at Nissan Stadium over the past few years. The fans just do not seem to care. Who can blame them? The product on the field has been sub par. I can’t even call it Vanilla, because Vanilla is still pretty good.

Recently you will see as many of the opposing team’s jerseys as you do the Titans. It is not near Vanderbilt status, but getting close. Go to a Titans home game against the Bears. Go to a home game against the Steelers. Tell me what you heard in the stands, and what you see in the stands. It is not a home field advantage.

The Titans have not even been pretty good. But maybe that is changing. Marcus Mariota gives this team a chance.

The crowd will be excited to see the 2015 version of the Tennessee Titans for the first time this Sunday. But make no mistake, they will be there to see Marcus Mariota.

There will be Baby Blue Lei’s all over the place I am guessing as the Hawaiian turned Tennessean takes the field. It will be a rousing welcome. It needs to stay that loud throughout this game, but the Titans have to help the crowd.

More from Marcus Mariota

Just give us something to be excited about. Mariota can be that. But he can’t be that if he is on the ground like he was in Cleveland. He took too much punishment in that game. Now he was the first to admit that some of that was on him. He held the ball a little too long in some cases.

That much is true, but the offensive line must protect this guy at all costs. Rookie right tackle Jeremiah Poutasi had a rough day in Cleveland. He is learning on the job. That is a tough thing to do in the NFL. It is also tough as a rookie NFL Quarterback to have trust in that rookie right tackle. Trust is a big deal when you have to step up in the pocket.

The Titans take on the bully of the AFC South. The Indianapolis Colts have dominated the league for a while. They are now 0-2 on the season. They are in a bit of disarray. The Bills and the Jets made quarterback Andrew Luck look like a mere mortal.

Luck and the Colts offense were booed off of the field on Monday Night by their home team fans. That is how bad they have been. But it is more about what the opposing team’s defense did to Luck than it was his play. He was pressured early and often. I mean like every play.

The Titans need to dial up this same pressure. The difference is that the Bills and the Jets had corners that played press man to man. I’m a little bit afraid of what would happen if TY Hilton is one on one with Blidi Wreh-Wilson all afternoon. Probably not a good outcome for the Titans there.

LeBeau will have to get pressure on Luck. The Titans fans will have to put pressure on the Colts offense. Nissan, formerly LP Field, used to rock for the Titans. I mean that stadium could get loud. That is a huge, huge advantage for Tennessee. It needs to be that way this Sunday.

The Titans will not get many opportunities to put the Colts in the absolute cellar of the AFC South. They have to make this one count. This is a game the Titans need to win. It would win the fan base back, and put some excitement back in Nashville as far as the Titans go.

So for the fans, get there early and help this team. Do what you can to help support. Put the pressure on this Colt offense.  As far as the team goes, it is up to the Titans staff and players to give this group of fans something to be excited about. It is a two way street. The home field advantage at Nissan Stadium needs to begin again Sunday. We will see.
