The Memphis Grizzlies found out on Tuesday that point guard Mike Conley will miss six to eight weeks.

News broke on Tuesday that Memphis Grizzlies point guard Mike Conley will miss six to eight weeks with a fracture in his back.

The loss of Conley leaves a huge hole in the Grizzlies’ lineup — one that probably can’t be replaced by anyone on the current roster.

Andrew Harrison will be leaned on heavily now, but offensively he’s been pretty bad this season. He’s shooting less than 30% from the field.

Rookie Wade Baldwin will likely be inserted into the starting lineup, but that’s probably not going to be enough to keep the Grizzlies in the thick of the playoff race in the western conference.

The right move, to at least keep Memphis in the playoff picture, would probably be to bring back Mario Chalmers.

The Grizzlies released Chalmers last season after he ruptured his right achilles tendon in early March.

Chalmers was averaging nearly 11 points a game in 55 games played with Memphis before the injury.

The former Miami Heat guard is expected to be cleared for full basketball activity soon.

When Chalmers is cleared, the Grizzlies should get on the phone and get him back in Memphis ASAP.

Chalmers returning to Memphis won’t be a fix-all. But it’s a necessary move.

Conley is EXPECTED to miss six to eight weeks.

We all know, however, how injury timelines can deviate from their original time frame.

That eight week timeline could easily turn into 12 weeks or more if Conley’s recovery doesn’t go exactly as expected.

The Grizzlies need to do whatever they can to make sure they’re in good shape when Conley returns to the lineup.

And if they bring back Chalmers, that will just make Memphis that more dangerous come playoff time.
