Tennessee Vols freshman John Fulkerson underwent surgery on Wednesday.

247Sports reported on Friday that Vols forward John Fulkerson underwent surgery on his right elbow on Wednesday.

Fulkerson originally injured his elbow in the Vols’ win against Lipscomb on December 15.

Tennessee head coach Rick Barnes originally told reporters that Fulkerson was expected to miss six weeks of action.

According to 247Sports, that timetable remains in place.

Fulkerson’s stats this season aren’t eye-popping, 4.7 points and 4.6 rebounds per game, but he had started six of ten games for the Volunteers.

Lew Evans and Kyle Alexander have seen an uptick in playing time during Fulkerson’s absence.

If Fulkerson doesn’t return this season, he would be eligible for a medical redshirt, according to NCAA rules.
