Jake Spavital

Currently the Offensive Coordinator/Quarterbacks Coach at California

If Jones is truly taking his time to make this hire, then he needs to make sure he looks everywhere.

Jake Spavital might seem a little young, but he’s done a lot in his short career.

Spavital started his coaching career in 2008 at Tulsa as an offensive quality control assistant. He quickly moved up the coaching ranks and landed as West Virginia’s quarterbacks coach in 2011.

In 2013, Spavital was hired at Texas A&M as the Aggies’ co-offnesive coordinator/quarterbacks coach. He coached Johnny Manziel at A&M, so he obviously knows how to adjust his offense to the skills of the quarterback.

Spavital’s offensive philosophy is somewhat in line with Butch Jones, but he would bring an innovative touch with him.

I wouldn’t call this a homerun hire by any means, but Spavital would still be a solid addition.

Plus, as previously mentioned, he does have experience in the SEC.
