Jim Tressel

Former head coach at Ohio State

This one is a obviously a long shot, and a gamble, but hey it’s all about winning football games, right?

Jim Tressel was incredibly successful at Ohio State. From 2001-2010 there were only two seasons where the Buckeyes failed to win at least ten games. They never had a losing season under Tressel (not counting the 12 vacated wins in 2010).

Tressel, as you probably remember, resigned from Ohio State in 2011 amid a memorabilia scandal. He was given a five year show cause penalty by the NCAA (which expired this past December).

Hiring Tressel would be a risk because his previous troubles with the NCAA. It would be a gamble because he hasn’t coached since the 2010 season.

But there’s no doubt that Tressel is a winner. I have little doubt that he could find success again at the collegiate level.

Tressel is currently the president at Youngstown State, and he’s suggested in the past that he’s “officially retired” from coaching.

However, Tressel is just now in a position where he could entertain the idea of a return to coaching.

Tennessee might be just the place.
