James Franklin

Current head coach at Penn State

Speaking of hires that wouldn’t be popular in Knoxville, there’s this guy.

James Franklin didn’t win any Vol fans over during his time at Vanderbilt. A lot of that is because he has a winning record against the Vols (that’s not something you can typically say about Vanderbilt head coaches).

Some of the reason fans grew to hate Franklin was because of his rash personality. He’s a snarky guy that elicits the worst of responses from fans.

But again, this guy can coach.

He’s been a head coach for six seasons and all of his teams have went to bowl games.

Only one of his teams (2011 Vandy) had a losing record (6-7, lost bowl game).

Franklin is also coming off an 11 win season at Penn State, which is a pretty impressive feat as well.

SEC experience, excellent recruiting skills, winning coach. All the things that a Vol fan could possibly want in a coach.
