Ty Chandler

Position: Running Back

Ty Chandler is in a perfect position as a freshman running back.

The Vols suffered a plenty of attrition at the running back position this past season.

Starting running back Jalen Hurd left the program after Tennessee’s brutal loss to South Carolina, and the criminally underused Alvin Kamara declared for the NFL draft, leaving a year of eligibility on the table.

That leaves rising junior John Kelly as the incumbent starting running back.

Kelly will be a solid starter for the Vols — he’s incredibly underrated. But he can’t do it all on his own.

That means Chandler will have plenty of chances to overtake Carlin Fils-aime as the primary backup to Kelly.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Chandler is able to rise to number two on the depth chart at the conclusion of fall practice.
