The Tennessee Vols announced two hires on Tuesday evening.
Butch Jones finalized his 2017 coaching staff on Tuesday by announcing the hiring of former Michigan head coach Brady Hoke as defensive line coach/associate head coach and Walt Wells as offensive line coach.

Both of these coaches will bring a tremendous amount of experience to Tennessee’s coaching staff.
Wells came to the Vols last season as an offensive quality control coach. He was the offensive coordinator at South Florida in 2013.
Hoke’s resume is a little more well know. He was Oregon’s defensive coordinator last season, but prior to that he was head coach at Michigan.
These are both really solid hires by Jones, and it caps off an off-season full of good hires.
Offensive line play has been the achilles heel of the Volunteers since Jones’ arrival in 2013.
Tennessee had talent, but they never took the next step under Don Mahoney.
Wells should be able to help the offensive line group take their play to the next level.
Previous defensive line coach Steve Stripling will now be the director of player development. Jones described his relationship with Stripling as “special” and said he would continue to involved in “every facet of our football program”.
Jones promised to make off-season changes and he delivered on that promise.
The Vols now have a staff that’s capable of delivering an SEC East division championship.
It should be fun to see how this group works together in 2017.
