Will The Tennessee Titans Draft Any Tennessee Vols In 2017 NFL Draft?
By Zach Ragan
Josh Dobbs — Quarterback
Projected draft range: Sixth to seventh round
Obviously the Titans have their starting quarterback of the future.
But we all know how injuries can derail a season for an NFL team.
The Titans’ backup quarterback, Matt Cassel, is a free agent. But even if Tennessee resigns him, they could still use Josh Dobbs.
Think about it, if Mariota misses a game, then Cassel is fine for a spot start. If Mariota, however, suffers a long term injury, I don’t think you want to hand the ball to a career backup.
The Dallas Cowboys proved this past season that a late round draft pick can step up and take a team to the playoffs.
No one knows if Josh Dobbs is the next Dak Prescott (hopefully the Titans don’t have to deal with any more Mariota injuries). But he definitely has some NFL potential. He’s a gritty kid with excellent character.
Plus there’s the fact that Dobbs could likely step in at quarterback without the offense having to go through any modifications based on skill set.
There are worse ways for the Titans to spend a late draft pick.
