Tennessee Titans Need To Draft Corey Davis
By Zach Ragan
If the Tennessee Titans plan to draft a wide receiver in the first round of the upcoming NFL Draft, they’ll have several great options.
There’s very little debate whether or not the Tennessee Titans will draft a wide receiver in the upcoming NFL Draft.
Whether they choose to draft one in the first round, or later in the draft, is a completely different story.
Some mock drafts have the Titans going all defense in the first round, while others have them taking either a tight end or a wide receiver with the later first round pick.
If the Titans do end up using a first round pick on a wide receiver, they would be wise to use it on Western Michigan wide receiver Corey Davis.
Davis is one of the most prolific wide receivers in college football history — he holds the record for most career receiving yards (5,278).
He’s also second all time in career receiving touchdowns with 52.
But it’s not just Davis’ career numbers that’s made me fall in love with him. This kid is just a hard nosed football player that makes things happen on the field when everything around him is falling apart.
NFL.com’s Lance Zierlin described Davis as “a quarterback’s friend who works aggressively back to the ball”.
Here’s part of Zierlin’s scouting report on Davis that I think is exceptionally telling:
"Alpha attitude on the field and not afraid to take on the challenge of heavy target load. Excellent competitiveness. Focuses like a laser when ball is in the air. Tracks the deep ball as well as anyone in college and understands how to stack cornerbacks and keep them on his hip. Has second gear to run under the long ball. Excels in intermediate and deep parts of the field. Route running showed improvement in 2016. Variable route speed creates indecision for defenders."
Everything you could want in a wide receiver is right there. Being able to track the deep ball makes Davis a legitimate deep threat that can stretch the field — something the Titans definitely need next season.
However, the part of the above scouting report that excites me the most is the last sentence.
It’s one thing to be fast and to be a good route runner, but possessing the ability to switch up your speed and keep defenders guessing is what makes a good wide receiver a great wide receiver (think Antonio Brown, he does this as well as anyone in the league).
Davis is a player I just have a gut feeling about. I feel like he’s a top ten draft pick.

Which is why I think if he’s around when the Titans make their second pick in the first round (18th overall), they’d be very, very smart to take Davis.
