Tennessee Vols: 5 Coaches That Could Lead Vols To A Championship
By Zach Ragan
James Franklin
I understand that a lot of Vols fans can’t stand the sight of James Franklin.
But that doesn’t change the fact that Franklin is one hell of a good coach.
Franklin did the impossible at Vanderbilt and turned them into a respectable football program that went to three bowl games during his three seasons in Nashville.
Under Franklin, the Commodores finished with back to back nine win seasons.
The last time Vandy had won nine games in a season was 1915. Winning nine games in back to back seasons at Vanderbilt? That’s not something that happens.
Franklin then took over a tough situation at Penn State. He won seven games his first two seasons in Happy Valley, before leading the Nittany Lions to 11 wins and a Rose Bowl appearance.
Imagine what Franklin could do with the resources at Tennessee. If he can be that successful at Vanderbilt, there’s little doubt he could have the Vols in the national title picture in a relatively short amount of time.
