Doug Marrone

This one is a bit of a wild card, but still very intriguing to me.

Marrone has limited experience as a head coach at the collegiate level. He was average at Syracuse (25-25 in four years), but he was seen as good enough to land the Buffalo Bills’ head coaching job.

The former Vol assistant is now the head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars, where he finished the 2016 season as the interim head coach.

If Marrone doesn’t find success in Jacksonville (and really, who does?), he could elect to return to the college level.

And it seems like once a coach returns to college from a the NFL, they always end up being better coaches.

Marrone isn’t a certain thing like Nick Saban or Jim Harbaugh, but if he were to lead a program like Tennessee, I think he would have the potential to find great success.
