Slandering the legendary Pat Summit is not something that will stand with fans of the Tennessee Vols.

It came to my attention on Tuesday morning that the late legendary coach Pat Summitt was being blamed for the decline of Lady Vols basketball.

If you want to see the article, it shouldn’t be too hard to find. Just search Twitter.

I just want to take a moment to point out Summitt’s accomplishments.

Now I’m not attempting to defend Summitt. She doesn’t need me, a blogger who is struggling to quit Diet Coke and just get through the day, to defend her. Her accomplishments speak for her in ways I never could.

  • 8 NCAA championships
  • 16 regular season SEC championships
  • 16 SEC tournament championships
  • Named SEC coach of the year 8 times
  • Named NCAA coach of the year 7 times
  • Basketball hall of fame inductee (2000)
  • Awarded 2012 Presidential Medal of Freedom
  • Olympic Gold Medalist
  • Most career wins by a division 1 basketball coach (1,098)
  • Most wins in NCAA tournament history (112)
  • Never missed an NCAA tournament
  • Every player to completed their eligibility under Summitt played in at least one Elite 8

Don’t slander Pat Summitt. Don’t even attempt to take anything away from her as a coach and person.

She’s one of the greatest coaches the the world of sports has EVER seen, and she deserves nothing but the utmost respect.
