Former Tennessee Vols Tight End Mychal Rivera Signs With Jacksonville Jaguars
By Zach Ragan
Mychal Rivera, who was drafted by the Oakland Raiders, is heading back to the east coast.
Former Tennessee Vols tight end Mychal Rivera signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars on Wednesday.
Rivera, who played at Tennessee from 2010-2012, was drafted by the Oakland Raiders in the sixth round of the 2013 NFL Draft.
The Los Angeles native caught 146 passes for 1,413 yards and ten touchdowns in four seasons with the Raiders.

Rivera’s best season came in 2014 when he caught 58 passes for 534 yards and four touchdowns.
The situation with the Jaguars should be much better for Rivera than it was Oakland.
In Oakland, Rivera split time with Clive Walford.
But in Jacksonville, Rivera will be replacing the recently departed Julius Thomas.
With Marcedes Lewis transitioning to more of a blocking tight end role, Rivera should see plenty of targets.
There’s no doubt that Rivera is capable of being a solid starting tight end in the NFL, he just needs an opportunity to receive consistent targets.
Jacksonville might not seem like a tight end’s dream destination, but it could end up working out very well for Rivera.
Hopefully for the Jaguars, Rivera will be able to quickly develop a rapport with Jacksonville’s starting quarterback Blake Bortles.
