Offensive Line — Trey Smith

Freshman

You don’t sign a player like Trey Smith and keep him on the bench — even if he is a true freshman.

I imagine Butch Jones will try to take his time with Smith. He probably won’t start against Georgia Tech in the opener.

But I don’t think Jones and the staff will be able to keep Smith out of the starting lineup for long.

Smith has the benefit of being an early enrollee, which is absolutely huge for his development at the collegiate level.

If Smith can power his way into the lineup, he should prove to be one of the better offensive linemen in the conference.

And that’s something the Vols desperately need. Tennessee’s offensive line has been pretty terrible the past few seasons. A star like Trey Smith could be the catalyst that helps turn the Volunteers’ offensive line into a big strength.
