Derek Barnett — Defensive End

Philadelphia Eagles — Round 1 Pick 14

Derek Barnett ended up in a pretty great situation by landing with the Philadelphia Eagles.

The former Vol defensive end had plenty of questions surrounding him in the pre-draft process, which is why Tennessee’s all-time sack leader fell out of the top ten.

Draft analysts questioned Barnett’s athleticism and ability to defend against the run in the NFL. Fortunately for Barnett, however, he probably won’t be asked to do a lot against the run with the Eagles.

Barnett should strictly be an edge rusher in Philadelphia, which means all he’ll have to worry about is getting after the quarterback.

Of course, as Vol fans saw during his time on Rocky Top, Barnett is good enough that when a play goes awry for the defense the former Tennessee standout can recover and potentially save a big play.

Barnett will likely be an immediate part of the Eagles’ pass rush.
