1. Chip Kelly

Career Record: 46-7

Pac-12 Champion (2009, 2010, 2011)

Every few years there’s a head coach that’s available that will undoubtedly turn a program into a perennial powerhouse.

Nick Saban, Urban Meyer and Jim Harbaugh are the most recent examples.

Chip Kelly is one of those guys.

Kelly is following the Saban/Harbaugh timeline currently. Do great things in college, head to the NFL for a few years, then return to the college game.

If the Vols can land Kelly after the 2017 season, that’s a move they have to make. Kelly can, and would, do great things in Knoxville (if all you care about is winning on the field).

There are very, very few elite coaches in the game of college football. Kelly is an elite coach and he would have Tennessee consistently in the top five shortly after arriving on Rocky Top.
