2002 Season: Tennessee 41 Arkansas 38

Date: October 5

Location: Neyland Stadium (Knoxville, TN)

Rankings: Tennessee — 10, Arkansas — 25

Attendance: 105,688

Why was it the biggest win of the year?

Tennessee started the 2002 season as the 4th ranked team in the nation, but an early loss to Florida dropped them to 11th before the end of September.

2002 ended up being a fairly unremarkable year for the Vols. They won the games they were traditionally “supposed to win”, but managed to lose to all of their biggest rivals (Florida, Georgia, Alabama). They also lost a big non-conference matchup with Miami.

That’s why the biggest win of the year, and definitely the most exciting win, was their six overtime victory against the Arkansas Razorbacks.

The Vols’ win against Arkansas was their only win against a ranked team in 2002.
