2004 Season: Tennessee 30 Florida 28

Date: September 18

Location: Neyland Stadium (Knoxville, TN)

Rankings: Tennessee — 13, Florida — 11

Attendance: 109,061

Why was it the biggest win of the year?

Tennessee’s 2004 team was criminally underrated.

The Vols’ 2004 squad wasn’t expected to win the SEC East — that designation went to Georgia.

2004 was an incredibly rare season for Tennessee because they beat all three of their main rivals in the same season, and it started with their win against Florida.

(If Erik Ainge doesn’t get hurt just before halftime against Notre Dame, Tennessee wins 11 games in 2004.)

The Vols appeared to tie the game late in the fourth quarter, but James Wilhoit missed the extra point. Fortunately for Wilhoit, though, he received a chance for redemption — and he delivered.

Wilhoit kicked the game winning 50 yard field goal, becoming an instant hero in Neyland and delivering one of the best wins in the already historic Florida-Tennessee rivalry.
