The Tennessee Titans recently signed former Denver Broncos and New York Jets wide receiver Eric Decker.

Eric Decker hasn’t been a member of the Tennessee Titans as long as Jonnu Smith, but he has seniority in the NFL, which means he gets his choice of jersey number over rookies.

The Titans tweeted on Thursday that Decker will wear his customary 87 in Tennessee. Rookie tight end Jonnu Smith was the previous owner of the number.

Smith, according to the Titans, will now wear 81. The rookie tight end has already changed his Twitter handle to reflect the change.

The Titans are hoping Decker will bring experience and steadiness to their passing game. Tennessee has several young talented wide receivers in Corey Davis and Tajae Sharpe, but Decker isn’t expected to interfere with their development.

General manager Jon Robinson has put together a healthy mix of young players and veterans, which is exactly why the Titans are expected to be a big factor in the AFC playoff picture in 2017.

Tennessee’s offense, especially with Decker in the mix, should be able to compete with other high powered offenses in the AFC this fall.

The Titans’ running game is already one of the best in the league. If the passing game continues to improve, it could be lights out in the AFC South for the rest of the competition.
