Tyler Byrd — Wide Receiver

Everyone knows that Jauan Jennings will be the Vols’ top receiving option in 2017.

But beyond Jennings, the landscape isn’t as clear.

Part of the reason for the Volunteers’ success in 2016 was the emergence of Jennings as the team’s number two wide receiver.

With last year’s top wide receiver Josh Malone now in the NFL, however, the Vols will need another wide receiver to step up like Jennings did last season.

And that guy could be Tyler Byrd.

Byrd played in all 13 games for the Vols last season, catching 15 passes for 209 yards.

Those numbers are similar to what Jennings did as a freshman (14 receptions for 149 yards).

If Byrd can take a big step forward in 2017, it will give the Vols another solid wide receiver option. It will also help create more opportunities for Jennings.

Tennessee needs Byrd to be the team’s number two wide receiver in 2017 in order to make some noise in the division.
