Tennessee vs Georgia Tech

September 4 — 8:00 pm et

Tennessee is 4-0 in season openers under Butch Jones, but Georgia Tech will easily be the best team the Vols have faced in an opener in the last four years.

And let’s be honest, Tennessee’s performance in last year’s season opener against Appalachian State doesn’t exactly inspire confidence.

If the Vols play like they did against Appalachian State last season, they won’t stand a chance against the Yellow Jackets.

But I don’t think that will be the case.

Butch Jones and his staff have had all off-season to prepare for Paul Johnson and Georgia Tech’s triple option offense. This isn’t an offense that’s going to catch Tennessee off guard.

I also think Jones knows how vital it is for Tennessee’s season to get off to a hot start. If they lose the opener to Georgia Tech, it could negatively affect the rest of the season and cause a domino effect in the loss column.

This will likely be a close game, one that could truly go either way. But I think Tennessee will manage to pull out the win and get their season off to a good start.

Prediction: Tennessee wins

Record: 1-0
