Former Tennessee Vols defensive back Malik Foreman is getting a shot in the NFL.

Malik Foreman, who played for the Tennessee Vols from 2013 to 2016, was signed by the New Orleans Saints this weekend.

Over his last two seasons at Tennessee, Foreman started 17 games. He was the Vols’ starting nickelback in 2015, but injuries forced him to be UT’s starting right cornernback during parts of the 2016 season.

If you’ll recall, it was Foreman who pulled up on Georgia’s go-ahead touchdown in 2016.

I’m assuming Foreman didn’t think Eason could throw the ball that far. Fortunately for the Vols, Tennessee’s next offensive play was a game winning hail mary as time expired. So Foreman was spared having to look at this highlight for the rest of his career, thinking he cost the team a win.

As for the Saints signing Foreman, they could definitely use the depth. New Orleans dealt with a lot of injuries last season. Five starting cornerbacks missed time last year for the Saints. The injuries forced New Orleans to start a combination of undrafted free agents and veteran free agents.

The Saints drafted Ohio State’s Marshon Lattimore in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft to help alleviate some of their depth issues. That doesn’t mean, however, that Foreman won’t have a shot to make New Orleans’ final 53 man roster.

Obviously, joining the team in the second week of August makes this a longshot.

But Foreman, however, has a lot of starting experience in the SEC. That experience could be invaluable for a team if they start losing starters.

Even if Foreman doesn’t make the Saints’ 53 man roster, he could still get stashed on the practice squad, in case the injury bug creeps up in New Orleans again.
