Derek Dooley’s Vanderbilt Comment

There are plenty of regrettable moments from the Derek Dooley era at Tennessee But one of his biggest missteps as the Vols’ head coach was proclaiming “If there’s one thing Tennessee always does, it’s kick the s*** out of Vanderbilt”.

Dooley made the comments after Tennessee beat Vandy in overtime in 2011.

Obviously that didn’t go over too well with the Commodores’ head coach James Franklin. And payback was in store in 2012 when the Vols traveled to Nashville to take on Vandy. It ended up being Dooley’s last game as the Vols’ head coach (UT lost 41-18).

Franklin was able to take a shot at Dooley in his post game press conference after the win in 2012.

It was certainly a fitting end to the Dooley era on Rocky Top.
