10 Most Regrettable Moments In Tennessee Vols History

Derek Dooley Forgets How To Count
Of all the ways to lose a game, the way the Volunteers lost to LSU in 2010 was the absolute worst.
Tennessee thought they had the game won, before a penalty for too many men on the field was called against the Vols. UT had 13 men on the field on what they thought was the final play of the game.
My recollection of this game is a bit comical nearly seven years later. I was at a fall cookout in North Carolina and I was the only Tennessee fan in attendance. I watched the end of the game with a couple of friends. When I saw Tennessee had kept LSU from scoring I quickly celebrated and went outside with the rest of the group around the fire.
Later in the evening I walked by a television and saw the score at the bottom of the screen — it said Tennessee had actually lost the game. I soon found out that Derek Dooley had forgot how to count.
This would’ve been Dooley’s signature win at Tennessee. But a foolish penalty prevented that from becoming a reality.
