Tennessee Vols: 2017 Pre-Season SEC Power Rankings
By Zach Ragan
14. Ole Miss Rebels
It’s quite a surprise to see Ole Miss at the very bottom of this list, but things are a complete mess in Oxford right now.
The Rebels already knew heading into the 2017 season that they wouldn’t be playing in a bowl game, thanks to a self imposed one year post season ban. But Hugh Freeze’s abrupt resignation this summer has created a complete dumpster fire at Ole Miss.
Matt Luke will be the interim head coach this season, and he actually has some decent talent to work with.
Quarterback Shea Patterson has plenty of talent, and the offensive line returns plenty of experience. Ole Miss, however, will have a new offensive coordinator calling plays. So there could be some growing pains.
The Rebels also have a new defensive coordinator in 2017, which could also cause some growing pains.
Ole Miss has the potential to be decent right now, but right now there are just too many distractions to assume they’ll be able to compete in the SEC West.
