Jarrett Guarantano — Quarterback (Redshirt Freshman)

Give me a moment to explain this one.

First of all, I think junior Quinten Dormady will be the Vols’ starting quarterback when Tennessee kicks off the 2017 season against Georgia Tech on September 4.

And I think Dormady has the potential to be a really good quarterback for Tennessee. However, we don’t have a lot to go on, so he’s going to have to prove it when it counts.

If he can’t prove it, or if he suffers any sort of injury, then the equally talented (though gifted with a slightly different skill set) Jarrett Guarantano will see action.

As of right now, I’m fine with either Dormady or Guarantano at quarterback for the Vols. I think Tennessee can have success with both. But if Guarantano takes over as the starter, it probably means things have went south for Dormady.

That then means that Tennessee can’t lose Guarantano, because true freshman Will McBride would then be the starting quarterback, thanks to the transfer of Sheriron Jones.

While McBride might end up being a great quarterback, I don’t necessarily think he’s going to be able to lead the Vols to a division title as a true freshman (even though Erik Ainge did, I get it).

That’s why Tennessee can’t lose Gurtantano. He’s the fail safe for the Vols’ offense in 2017.
