5 Reasons The Tennessee Titans Win The AFC South In 2017

4. Improved Secondary
The Titans’ biggest deficiency last season was undoubtedly their secondary.
Tennessee had the 30th ranked passing defense in the NFL in 2016, allowing an average of 269 passing yards per game. The Titans also had a problem limiting “big plays” lasts season. They gave up 56 passing plays longer than 20 yards, and 12 passing plays longer than 40 yards. They were among the bottom teams in the league in both of those categories.
So it shouldn’t be a surprise that general manager Jon Robinson did his best to upgrade the secondary this off-season. It started with the free agency period, when Robinson signed safety Johnathan Cyprien and cornerback Logan Ryan.
The Titans also added talented cornerback Adoree’ Jackson via the first round round of the draft.
In addition to the new pieces in the secondary, the Titans will also be counting on second year safety Kevin Byard to take a big step forward. Byard has the potential to be a Pro-Bowl safety, and Tennessee will need him to to unlock that talent in order to make sure their secondary is a strength in 2017 and not a weakness.
