Vertical Passing Game

The Vols have been at their best over the last several years when they were throwing the ball down the field.

Anytime there’s been a lack of “splash” plays for Tennessee, it’s usually resulted in a loss.

The running game and short passing game are obviously important to the Vols’ success, but they won’t win games if they aren’t picking up big chunks of yardage. That’s why the loss of Josh Malone, someone who was able to stretch the field for the UT in 2016, is a bigger loss than most folks realize.

Jauan Jennings has the top end speed to stretch the field, just ask Florida’s Teez Tabor. But without Malone across the field to command attention, it will be more difficult for Jennings to escape over the top safety help.

This is why it’s so important for Marquez Callaway and Tyler Byrd to take a giant leap forward in 2017 and become an integral part of Tennessee’s offense.
